Important Tips To Help You Avoid Burnout and Thrive At Work

Working hard at work for particular periods is expected now and again, however you need to know how to manage your workload to avoid burnout and to help you thrive at work. So, we’re here with some tips on how you can do just that, from what you need to do when you’re at work and also how to create boundaries elsewhere. From treating yourself to new wardrobe essentials like little black dresses to having serious conversations with your manager, we’ve got it all covered.

Forget Work Over The Weekend!

The first thing you need to do is forget work over the weekend. When you are tempted to even do something small like check your emails, your brain automatically switches into work mode and it can really build up over time, even if it doesn’t feel like it. You need to give yourself a chance to think about other things over the weekend and allow your brain to fully switch itself off.

So, leave your work phone at work, plan fun things with your friends and make the most of the weekend. This might be going for a nice long walk in the sun, getting your best festival outfits out and having a great time with friends, enjoying a cute date night or even going on a little city break. So, no matter what you decide to do, forget work for the weekend.

Assign An Hour A Day For Self Care

During the week there is just as much opportunity to burn out as there is over the weekend. So, every day in the week, you need to assign at least an hour a day as a bare minimum to self care. This could be going to your favourite gym class, going for a sunset walk listening to your favourite podcast,  spending time cooking a delicious and nutritious meal to make you feel good and look after yourself, or you could have a nice hot bath with all of your favourite products. An hour a day should be minimum, but we understand how difficult it can be when you’re commuting for work. So, focus on that one hour and you’ll feel great by the end of the week ready for your weekend.

Speak To Your Manager

In terms of avoiding burnout as a result of your workload, it’s so important that you speak to your manager. If you feel like your workload is getting overwhelming and you’re having to work quite a lot outside your hours, then you need to talk to them to help manage your workload. If you have the power at work to delegate yourself, then do that where you can, as finding the courage to lead and delegate can be transformative. If they’re being unreasonable, it shows that they probably don’t care about your wellbeing and this might be a sign for you to look elsewhere. Either way, putting yourself and your mental health first is so important, and no job is worth sacrificing that.

Exercise

The power of exercise shouldn’t be overlooked, particularly in relation to work. When you exercise, it releases endorphins that help to transform your mood and give you a great boost of energy. Whether you exercise in the morning to set you up for the day or you choose to unwind after work in the evening, it can really transform your routine and give you the opportunity to de-stress. Exercise comes in so many different forms, from a walk with friends to high intensity exercise classes, so find the routine that works right for you. Even doing 30 minutes a few times a week will make a huge difference to how you feel and how you’re able to thrive at work!
